Next week, EDF will participate in the Conference of State Parties to the CRPD in the UN Headquarters in New York.

Follow our side events on accessibility, refugees with disabilities and development cooperation.

Every year, the State Parties to the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UN CRPD) meet at the UN headquarters in New York. The meeting is called ‘Conference of States Parties to the CRPD’ – in short COSP- and its purpose is to consider any matter with regard to the implementation of the CRPD.

This year it is the 10th session of the COSP and it will take place from 13 to 15 June 2017 under the theme: ‘The second decade of the CRPD: inclusion and full participation of persons with disabilities and their representative organisations in the implementation of the Convention’.

The sub themes are:

  • Addressing the impact of multiple discrimination on persons with disabilities and promoting their participation and multi-stakeholder partnerships for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in line with the CRPD;
  • Inclusion and full participation of persons with disabilities in humanitarian action;
  • Promoting inclusive urban development and implementation of the New Urban Agenda – Habitat III.

Civil Society Forum

On the day prior to the COSP, the 12th of June, there will be a CRPD Civil Society Forum. The Forum gives space for open discussion and sharing of a huge diversity of experience and perspective from across the disability rights community, and the opportunity to engage with governments, UN bodies and others from across civil society.
