UN CONFERENCE OF STATE PARTIES: EDF REPORTS FROM NEW YORK

In the week of 7-14 September, disability clocks are beating on New York time. The Fifth Session of the Conference of State Parties to the CRPD (the so called COSP) is taking place at the UN Headquarters gathering the attention of the disability movement worldwide. Over the Conference of State Parties, there are a lot of important meetings and side events, on which EDF reports every day from the UN.

- 11/09 Civil Society Forum
The Civil Society CRPD Forum (CSF) was a full day event which took place the day prior to the Conference of States Parties to the CRPD. It was coordinated by IDA and its member organisations and was open to all other DPOs and NGOs committed to the implementation of the CRPD.
Poland is the 23th EU country that is about to ratify the UN Convention (We are still waiting for Ireland, Finland, Malta and the Netherlands).

- 12-14/09 Conference of State Parties to the CRPD
The Fifth Session of the Conference of States Parties to the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities is taking place from 12 to 14 September 2012 at the UN Headquarters.
The theme of the session is: Making the CRPD count for Women and Children.
The sub-themes are Technology and Accessibility, Children with Disabilities and Women with Disabilities.
Election of the Members of the Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities
At this Session of the Conference, 9 of the positions on the CRPD Committee were renewed.
Entitled “European Union: The experience of a Regional organisation in the UNCRPD”, the side-event presented the experience of a regional intergovernmental organisation in the implementation process of the UNCRPD by describing the mechanisms for implementation, including the framework to promote, protect and monitor the implementation, the involvement of organisations of persons with disabilities and the implications for the EU policy-making.
