Disability and Ageing: Shaping the Agenda of Tomorrow - COSP19 Side event

Tuesday, June 11, 2019 - 11:30
1h15 (one hour and fifteen minutes)
Conference Room C

The social and health care provision landscape for older persons with disabilities shows that support is currently either provided by general mainstream services, by specialised disability support services or by services targeting older persons. These types of services are experiencing shortages as the development of support has not anticipated increased demand, nor has been able to adapt its offer to different and rising needs. Neither has it been possible to incorporate all these aspects in integrated manner. While the fragmentation of services has been determined by the necessity to respond to demand with the limited resources available, it seems clear that a more comprehensive and better funded framework should be developed to ensure the needed support is readily available. This side event will explore the links between disability and ageing, existing and needed services and will discuss key issues at stake as well as innovative models of support put in place at national level.
