Persons with disabilities are routinely excluded from the labour market, for several reasons and with negative impact on them, their families and society as a whole. This webinar brings together several experts to discuss the methods for identifying persons with disabilities and monitoring their situation in employment, taking examples from Kenya and Bangladesh. It will focus on how to obtain reliable statistics on disability inclusion in the labour market using the Washington Group questions, and the need to link this with national census data. It will also highlight the benefits of modern technology and meaningful participation of persons with disabilities and their representative organisations in implementation of these processes.

  • Valentina Stoevska, Department of Statistics, ILO Geneva
  • Robert Buluma, Kenya National Bureau of Statistics
  • Anderson Gitonga, United Disabled Persons of Kenya

Moderated by Gordon Rattray, European Disability Forum, and with an introduction from Mark Carew, Leonard Cheshire.

The webinar will provide real-time captioning and international sign. The webinar will be recorded and shared later for those who cannot join.
