Access City Award 2020 application call is now open

17 July 2019

Do you know a city that deserves to be recognised for making itself accessible to persons with disabilities? Tell them to apply!

The European Access City Award (ACA) is organised every year by the European Commission, with the support of EDF. It aims to celebrate effort of cities to be more accessible and helps promote best practices across Europe.

The ceremony for the 10th European Access City Award will take place during the annual European Day of Persons with Disabilities (EDPD) Conference in Brussels, on 29 November 2019. The winning cities will be rewarded for their efforts to make it easier for persons with disabilities and older persons to gain access to public and private areas such as housing, work environments, public transport, recreational and cultural facilities, and communication technologies.

Who can apply?

The Access City Award is open to cities across the EU with over 50 000 inhabitants. If a country has fewer than two cities with so many inhabitants, two or more smaller cities in the country can join to apply. If together they have more than 50 000 inhabitants, they can take part in the Access City Award too.

Award Prize

This year’s award will include a monetary prize to each of the first winners and the two runners-up as follows:

  • 1st prize: €150 000
  • 2nd prize: €120 000
  • 3rd prize: €80 000

How to apply?

You can find more information about the Access City Award and application criteria on the dedicated webpage of the European Commission and the official website of Access City Award. The application guidance note and rules of contest should be read carefully before completing the application.

Final deadline

Cities meeting the selection criteria can submit their applications by 11 September 2019 (23:59 Brussels time).
