Agreement for cooperation with the International Union of Organizations of people with limited abilities

On 15 November 2015 in Berlin, Rodolfo Cattani, EDF Secretary , on behalf of EDF President Yannis Vardakastanis, and Vasilij Nazarenko, President of the International Union of Organizations of People with Limited Abilities (IU), signed an agreement for international cooperation on the implementation of the provisions of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UN CRPD)in the EU and its Member States, and in the member countries of the former Union of Soviet Socialist Republics.

EDF represents 80 million Europeans with disabilities through their representative organisations in all EU countries, and the International Union of Organizations of People with Limited Abilities, comprises organisations from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kirgizstan, Moldova, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Ukraine and Uzbekistan. We share the vision that the UN CRPD will contribute to the promotion of the implementation and enjoyment of the human rights and fundamental freedoms of persons with disabilities all over Europe. We will work together to further the implementation of the UN CRPD in their respective areas of responsibility.

The purpose of the cooperation agreement is to express our intention to cooperate in the implementation of the provisions of the UN CRPD according to the principles of equality of the partners of the agreement

The parties of the agreement commit themselves to the following ways of cooperation: exchange of experiences and information, holding joint conferences, seminars, workshops, sports, cultural, and other events, partnership in projects, exchange of delegations to participate in their respective programmes, mutual assistance, information exchange on calls for non-commercial projects and grants targeted to organisations of persons with disabilities.
