Apply: We are recruiting an International Cooperation Officer

The European Disability Forum (EDF) is seeking an enthusiastic and committed team member to work on international cooperation, based in our secretariat in Brussels.

Tasks are described in detail in the attached job description

Tasks include:

  • Actively engage EDF in advocacy on international cooperation in line with EDFs strategy, and in collaboration with partners such as SDG Watch Europe, the International Disability and Development Consortium (IDDC), the International Disability Alliance, development and human rights networks, and project partners. 
  • Work on policy and advocacy (analysis, briefings, preparation of speeches, etc) around the upcoming EU Neighbourhood Development and International Cooperation budget, the new EU Commission and European Parliament, the Development Assistance Committee (DAC) markers and the European Disability Strategy (2020-2030) to ensure article 32 of the CRPD (international cooperation) is included.
  • Promote inclusive international cooperation dialogue at the EU level including ensuring the voice and participation of persons with disabilities, including from the global south, in events such as the European Development Days (EDD) and the European Disability and Development Week (EDDW).
  • Organise workshops, trainings and events and coordinate visits of delegations of persons with disabilities at the national, regional and global levels.
  • Implement different EDF projects focusing on international cooperation, including the publication of reports and advocacy tools and focusing on DPOs engagement, employment and data.
  • Organise webinars every two months to disseminate the work of DPOs in international cooperation.
  • Manage EDF international cooperation email expert group and disseminate information through that group, EDF members mailing, EDF’s website as well as other partners channels.
  • Support project management (narrative and financial reporting).
  • Represent EDF at relevant meetings and events when specific policy and technical expertise is required.
  • Engage in other activities as requested.

 

The ideal candidate has:

  • A strong commitment to EDFs mission and values
  • Proven experience in positions with tasks closely related to the ones described in the Job Description; including experience and knowledge on the rights of persons with disabilities and international cooperation, writing project proposals and reports to donors, cooperation with DPOs or other human rights organisations
  • At least two years’ experience in policy/advocacy influencing work at the EU, national or global level
  • Knowledge about employment, social protection as well as data and statistics
  • Experience in capacity building of civil society organisations and other actors on the rights of persons with disabilities, accessibility and inclusion
  • Ability to work independently
  • A high level of organisation, efficiency and an ability to prioritise and meet deadlines  
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and communication (verbal and written) skills in English; other languages including Sign languages are an advantage.
  • Permission to live and work in Belgium
  • Experience of working and living in a variety of cultures and countries

Gross starting salary: 2800 euros/month plus benefits (Luncheon vouchers, Transport costs, Pension Scheme, hospitalisation insurance, …)
