EU signs declaration on social priorities for coming years

The La Hulpe Declaration on the Future of the European Pillar of Social Rights was adopted by the EU and its Member States on 16 April.

EDF welcomes the emphasis that this declaration places on strengthening the EU Strategy on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and on better mainstreaming disability issues into EU policies.

What is the La Huple Declaration?

The La Hulpe Declaration is an interinstitutional declaration signed by the EU institutions (European Commission, European Parliament and Council of the EU), social partners and civil society. It has been adopted in the framework of the High-Level Conference on the European Pillar of Social Rights organised as part of the Belgian Presidency of the Council of the European Union. It aims to give direction to the EU’s social policy agenda of the period 2024-2029.

On disability specifically, the Declaration states that “to respect and promote the rights of persons with disabilities, in line with the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD), further steps should be taken to mainstream the disability perspective in all EU policies and to develop an ambitious second phase of the Strategy for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities”.
