  • EDF urges EU member states to not adopt a meaningless Web Accessibility Directive

11.06.2015 In view of the EU Ministers meeting in the Telecoms Council this Friday, the European Disability Forum wants to stress once again the importance of one of the items for discussion: the proposal for a Directive on the accessibility of public sector bodies’ websites. Having read the last progress report on this dossier issued by the Latvian Presidency, EDF deeply regrets the new approach taken by Member States as it could lead to the adoption of an EU legislation that would not bring any substantial change to the accessibility and inclusiveness of public websites for the 80 million Europeans...

15.06.2015 On the 15th June 2015, in the framework of the Latvian Presidency of the Council of the European Union, policy makers and experts come together in Riga to discuss de-institutionalisation (DI). • EU Equal Treatment Law: the time is now!

18.06.2015 Six months ago, organisations representing millions of EU citizens at risk of discrimination called on EU Member States to show clear commitment on the proposed Horizontal Directive on equal treatment. In the meantime, some progress has been made and the Directive should now be adopted without further delay. Equality for All coalition wants to debunk the lingering excuses that are still used by some Member States and remind that there are still millions of people in the EU suffering daily from preventable discrimination. WHAT IS “EQUALITY FOR ALL”? The Equality for All coalition is...

  • EDF reminds EU institutions that during this bickering people in Greece suffer

01.07.2015 EDF would like to remind the EU institutions and the governments of Europe, that while their heated discussions go on regarding the Greek default, the people of Greece are left in a limbo: ordinary people must survive without money, without jobs, without access to credit and with a completely unknown future. Despite the stated ambitions of the programme of the “Troika” consisting of the European Commission, the European Central Bank, and the International Monetary Fund, Greece has seen a 25% decline in Gross Domestic Product (GDP) since this programme started. This depression has been having...

EDF is happy to see the EU taking a step closer to the launch of the European Mobility Card. It is a project that we have been campaigning for a long time, together with the European Accessibility Act that the disability movement is still waiting for. WHY IS THE MOBILITY CARD NEEDED? The...

  • Meanwhile… people in Greece still suffer

09.07.2015 Once again, EDF calls on EU institutions and the governments in Europe to think of ordinary people in Greece who must still survive with no money, no jobs, no access to credit. People in Greece have suffered enough from the austerity measures. It is necessary to find a sustainable solution that allows Greek people to live with dignity and protects vulnerable groups of citizens such as men, women and young people with disabilities, as well as older people. There are figures that help everyone remember that despite the stated ambitions of the programme of the “Troika” consisting of the...
