07.06.2018 The IMCO committee voted on amendments to the Rail Passengers Rights regulation on 4 June. For example, IMCO MEPs adopted amendments to involve passengers with disabilities and DPOs in disability-related training and supported accessible information provisions. Other amendments are problematic – see below - and we will need to ensure that Transport Committee MEPs listen to our concerns before and during their vote on 21...

  • Rail Passengers Rights Regulation - Internal Market Committee vote: EDF's Voting Recommendations

04.06.2018 Today’s vote is very important for passengers with disabilities. At the European Disability Forum, we are pleased to see that the IMCO rapporteur and shadow rapporteurs have listened to our concerns when drafting compromise amendments. We are particularly pleased to see that a compromise amendment proposes to end prenotification to get assistance at all staffed stations. If adopted, this proposal will send a very strong message that the right to ‘turn up and go’ applies to 80 million European passengers with disabilities. The proposal to lower prenotification to 3 hours at unstaffed stations...

  • Spain must ensure inclusive education for persons with disabilities, warns U.N. Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.

31.05.2018 Following a confidential inquiry in 2017, experts found that Spain has contributed to a discriminatory system that uses legal provisions in place to maintain two educational systems and divert students with disabilities outside mainstream education. This is a grave and systemic violation of the student’s rights to education. Ms. Theresia Degener, Chairperson of the UN’s Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities...
