It highlights the close relationship between this practice and the deprivation of legal capacity, and describes the current situation in Europe and beyond. Finally, it gives an overview of the current human rights standards and jurisprudence on the topic.

EDF Alternative Report was published on the occasion of the European Union’s first ever review by the United Nations Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD Committee). Its purpose is to inform the CRPD Committee on how the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UN CRPD) has been implemented by the European Union.
