Thorkild Olesen

Thorkild Olesen was born in 1970 in Denmark. From his birth Thorkild was diagnosed with glaucoma. At first he was visually impaired, but at 21 years old he lost his sight completely. He lives with wife and two children in Odense.

Thorkild has a master degree in history and a minor in religions from the University of Aarhus.

Thorkild’s career in the disability movement is long and rich. In 1993 he became the chairman of the youth organization of the Danish Association of the Blind. Later he became head of department, vice-chair, and in 2009 he was elected as president of the organization.

During this period he was also elected as vice-chair of Disabled Peoples Organisations Denmark and in 2014 he became chair of the organization.
