Goodbye to Sophie Beaumont, former EDF staff

Goodbye to Sophie Beaumont, former EDF staff

It is with great sorrow that we learned of the death of Sophie Beaumont, former EDF colleague.

Sophie Beaumont was member of the EDF team for over 6 years as European Parliamentary and Policy Officer (1999-2006). Sophie worked closely with the Disability Intergroup, strengthening relations and promoting disability policies at the European Parliament, where she previously worked as secretariat of the Disability Intergroup (1997-1999). Sophie was crucial when EDF assumed the secretariat of the Disability Intergroup and began to work more closely with the EU parliamentarians.

Javier Güemes, former EDF director, said: “She had a tireless dedication and role in the disability movement. She made a change about disability awareness in the European Parliament including the successful European Parliament of Persons with Disabilities in 2003. She contributed to enhance the visibility of disability everywhere, in every single piece of legislation”

After EDF, she worked at Light for the World, and in 2007 joined the European Commission. During the past thirteen years, she has been working as a policy officer in the Directorate-General for Neighbourhood and Enlargement Negotiations (DG NEAR).

The entire EDF team and former EDF colleagues wish to express our most sincere condolences to her loved ones, and will never forget her great contribution to persons with disabilities in Europe.

An online book of condolences is also available through the link below for colleagues who wish to leave a personal message.
