Job description – Campaigns and Communications Officer

REPORTS TO:  Communications Coordinator

PURPOSE OF JOB: Coordinate and successfully manage campaigns regarding the European Elections and other topics related to disability rights

Campaign management

  • Development and implementation of an awareness-raising campaign around the European Parliament elections at national and European level.
  • Supporting advocates with disabilities in the organisation of activities regarding the European Parliament Elections (in the framework of the Disability Rights in the European Elections project).
  • Coordinating the creation of accessible videos.
  • Organising events in Brussels and supporting events in other countries.
  • Preparing and drafting articles, interviews and other written content.
  • Supporting EDF and its members in their policy work and campaign on political participation, including contacting parties and policymakers.
  • Support in development and implementation of other awareness-raising campaigns.

Communication

  • Support the communications team with its day-to-day work, including web, social media, press, publications and other communication activities.

Project management

  • Responsible for completing administrative and reporting tasks of the Disability Rights in the European Elections project.
  • Responsible for liaising with the European Parliament regarding the project and activities on the European Elections.

Required skills and experience:

  • Fluency in English, excellent verbal and written communication skills (other languages are a plus).
  • Background in communications, marketing and/or political campaigns.
  • At least two years experience in tasks related to communication, preferably political communication.
  • Proven experience in positions with tasks closely related to the ones described in the Job Description;
  • Good knowledge of how EU Institutions and policymaking.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to travel to other EU countries.
  • Permission to live and work in Belgium. Ideally based in Brussels.
  • Experience in managing projects and working with partners in different countries.
  • Experience of working and living in a variety of cultures and countries.
  • Well-organised, proactive and able to manage competing priorities.

Desirable experience

  • Experience managing service providers to create communication materials such as videos or leaflets.
  • Copywriting or creation of multimedia content would be an asset.
  • Knowledge of accessibility or desire to learn.
