The United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UN ECE) Constituency of Persons with Disabilities organised a webinar on February 6th. This webinar aimed at giving an overview of the Regional Forum on Sustainable Development and as well as to illustrate the work of the Stakeholder Group of Persons with Disabilities with regards to the next Regional Forum, which will be held in Geneva from 18th to 20th March 2020.
This webinar was organised by the Secretariat of the Constituency of Persons with Disabilities. The webinar was moderated by Orsolya Bartha, Senior Advisor on the 2030 Agenda at the International Disability Alliance (IDA) and the coordinator of the stakeholder group of persons with disabilities. There were about 70 people registered. The webinar was conducted in an accessible way for persons with disabilities providing live captioning and sign language interpretation. It was recorded and it will be sent with close captioning and sign language interpretation to all participants.
The first speaker was Elise Zerrath, Associate Expert on the Sustainable Development and Gender Unit in the UN Regional Forum. She gave some background and the objectives of the Regional Forums. She also spoke about the next Regional Forum which will take place in Geneva on the 19th and 20th of March.
The next speaker was Jose Viera, Permanent Representative of the Stakeholder Group of Persons with Disabilities. He is the main representative working at the global level, but he also works in close collaboration with the regional focal points. Mr Viera spoke in his presentation about what is the Stakeholder Group of Persons with Disabilities and what is its main role and objectives.
The third speaker was Marion Steff, who works in the European Disability Forum (EDF). She is coordinating the Secretariat for the UN ECE Constituency of Persons with Disabilities and she currently works as focal point for the UN Economic Social Council Constituency for Persons with Disabilities. She explained the Constituency for Persons with Disabilities and how the civil society movement is organised within the Regional Forum.
