The European Commission published its recommendation on Disaster Resilience Goals

The European Commission has published on the 9th of February 2023 its recommendation on disaster resilience goals to strengthening disaster resilience and improve the capacity of the EU and its Member States to withstand the effects of current and future natural and man-made disasters, most of them exacerbated by climate change and environmental degradation.

The recommendation represents a positive step regarding resilience building and pays particular attention to synergies and complementarity with relevant international resilience frameworks, such as the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction. The recommendation contains strong references to disability inclusion and calls on the EU and its Member States to strengthen disaster resilience by taking into consideration the requirements of persons with disabilities, such as accessibility to disaster risk information, awareness raising and adoption of risk prevention and preparedness measures for persons with disabilities.
