CRPD COMMITTEE: EDF SENDS ITS INTERPRETATION ON ACCESSIBILITY PROVISION IN THE UN CONVENTION

Pursuant to the 2010 Day of the General Discussion on Article 9 of the Convention of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD), the CRPD Committee has decided to proceed to draft a General Comment on article 9 of the Convention in order to provide for uniform interpretation of the obligations of States Parties in relation to accessibility. To this end, the Committee put forth an official call for submission of practical and theoretical papers on the implementation of Article 9.

On 15 March, EDF responded the call focusing on the definition of accessibility, difference between accessibility and reasonable accommodation and good national and European experiences on accessibility. The submission was prepared in consultation of the EDF expert groups.
