What does access to reclaiming your rights look like to persons with disabilities in the European Union?

How does one capture what justice looks like in a single image, let alone access to it? We are extending the question to you in an appeal to your creativity for this year’s EDF photo competition "Reclaiming your Rights”.

Whether it be portraits of activists, survivors, images of voting, court proceedings, rallies, speeches, etc., we are looking for engaging visuals that put forward the experience of people with disabilities throughout the political, legal and justice system – in a single photograph, of which three will be selected for prizes. Furthermore, as part of the Just4All project launched last November, some of the submitted images will be used to illustrate a report compiling positive practices currently facilitating access to justice for persons with disabilities in the European Union.

Submit entries to: Naomi Mabita –

They must contain the following:

  1. One single high-resolution photo (300dpi). Allowed: editing, filters, camera built-in effects. Not allowed: Collages (more than one photo), watermarks, text, or other elements added to the photo.
  2. A short description in English including the author’s name, and the city and country where the photo was taken.
  3. A signed copy of the Rights Authorization (see document below). Two signatures are needed, one from the person who took the picture and one from the person(s) appearing IN the picture. Participants must obtain and provide written consent from any adult who are identifiable in a photograph. Thank you to the Greater Manchester Coalition of Disabled People for granting us permission to borrow and share their archive photo of Chris Hughes (1961-2018) a relentless and beloved activist who fought for disability and LGBT+ rights in the UK until his passing last November. We were inspired by this image of uncompromised demands for access and justice for all, as well as by Chris’ advocacy legacy. We hope you are too.

Update 13/9/19: It was brought to our attention by a member of our Youth Committee that the documents and information surrounding the competition were not clear. We have taken this feedback and adjusted the information and documents to make them more accessible.
