The 2013 Work Forum is concluding today after two days of sharing experiences and discussing the challenges that the Member States have to face when it comes to the implementation of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UN CRPD).

Organised by the European Commission, the Work Forum gathered representatives of the structures for governance of the UN CRPD, namely Focal Points, Coordination Mechanisms and Monitoring Mechanisms across the EU Member States, as well as the EU, along with key actors from the civil society and representative organisations of persons with disabilities.

EDF with its members actively participated in the Work Forum calling for the close involvement and active participation of persons with disabilities through their representative organisations in the implementation and monitoring process of the CRPD.

“We are here to work together towards the full and unconditional implementation of the CRPD in order for progress and change to be achieved, while acknowledging the efforts and the positive results that have been already made. Any development that does not include persons with disabilities through their representative organizations, is a direct violation of the CRPD”, underlined in his opening speech EDF President Yannis Vardakastanis.
