Climate Justice must be inclusive: Women, disability and global climate action

Climate Justice must be inclusive: Women, disability and global climate action
from 11 am to 12.30 pm

Online via Zoom

This webinar will explore why climate action must meaningfully include women with disabilities and the perspectives of Organisations of Persons with Disabilities (OPDs). As global climate negotiations continue under the framework of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, feminist movements, OPDs, and climate justice advocates are increasingly calling for stronger intersectional approaches to climate policy and action.

The discussion takes place at a critical moment in the climate policy calendar, in the lead-up to the Bonn Climate Change Conference and the next UN climate conference (COP31) to be hosted in Turkey. These moments provide important opportunities for civil society, feminist movements and OPDs to influence climate negotiations and advocate for more inclusive climate policies.

Recent discussions around the proposed Belém Gender Action Plan 2026–2034 (GAP) highlight both progress and ongoing gaps in addressing intersectionality within climate governance. While the updated plan acknowledges in its preamble that climate impacts and opportunities for women and girls with disabilities are shaped by multidimensional factors, disability inclusion remains extremely limited. The current draft contains no operational actions, targets, or accountability mechanisms addressing the specific rights, barriers, and risks faced by women and girls with disabilities in climate policies and programmes.

Bringing together experts and advocates from feminist movements, disability rights organisations, OPDs and climate justice networks, this webinar will examine current international climate processes and identify key advocacy priorities to advance disability-inclusive and gender-responsive climate action.

The conversation will highlight lived experiences, policy gaps, and opportunities for collaboration across movements to strengthen intersectional advocacy and ensure that climate solutions are equitable, inclusive and transformative ahead of the next round of global climate negotiations.

The webinar aims to:

  • Highlight the intersection of gender, disability and climate justice
  • Share perspectives from feminist, disability and climate movements
  • Discuss key opportunities to advance inclusive climate policy
  • Encourage collaboration among global civil society actors
