A guide for donors on inclusive recovery in Ukraine. The European Regional Disability Summit. Supporting the adoption of the G7’s Solfagnano Charter.
These are just 3 of the many achievements presented in a report about our work in external action in 2024, launched on the occasion of the Global Disability Summit.
The report calls for a European Union Disability Action Plan with specific actions in this area. This Action Plan would guide the EU’s many commitments to become a reality.
It demonstrates that the leadership of organisations by persons with disabilities is essential, especially during a period of declining cooperation and aid. Strong partnerships between us and our involvement in flagship events and documents provide a strong signal towards inclusion.
This is especially necessary when persons with disabilities are the victims of war, such as in Ukraine or Gaza. Our advocacy at the European and country levels led to the inclusion of disability considerations in funds to support Ukraine. Unfortunately, efforts to support persons with disabilities in Gaza were met with silence from policymakers, a stark contrast to the response seen in our efforts in Ukraine.
2025 brings a much more challenging context, with governments undermining efforts towards diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility.
That is why the Forum welcomes and supports this Global Disability Summit as a timely opportunity to renew partnerships and commitments to disability inclusion and to equality.
