EU-ASEAN Civil Society Forum - Advancing Human Rights

The European Disability Forum actively participated in the European Union -Association of Southeast Asian Nations Civil Society Organisations Forum on 2 October in Brussels, Belgium, in anticipation of the 5th EU-ASEAN Policy Dialogue on Human Rights.

On behalf of the CSOs who attended, the Forum’s co-hosts presented joint policy recommendations – Advancing Human Rights: Creating an Enabling Environment for CSOs at the Regional Level (PDF) – to the delegates of the EU-ASEAN Policy Dialogue on October 3, 2023.  Our recommendations focused on three main thematic areas, including:

  • Human rights in the context of climate change.
  • Human rights and the digital age.
  • Anti-authoritarianism and Security Sector Reform: context of ASEAN and Europe.

Background

Launched in 2015, the EU- ASEAN Policy Dialogue on Human Rights is a high-level platform to discuss shared concerns on human rights, identify key challenges, and articulate a strategic framework for EU-ASEAN collaboration. The engagement underscores human rights as a key part of EU-ASEAN relations.
