Training on the European Semester Process

Training on the European Semester Process
from10 am to 11.30 am

Online. Zoom

The European Semester is a framework for the coordination and surveillance of economic and socioeconomic policies across the European Union. Since its introduction in 2011, it has become a well-established forum for discussing EU countries’ fiscal, economic and employment policy challenges under a common annual timeline.

The European Disability Forum, together with other social entities, had advocated for the inclusion of social analysis and recommendations within the mostly macroeconomical original scope. This request has been partially considered after the agreement of the European Pillar of Social Rights, and new social indicators are included in the annual analysis, but we need many further steps until we reach a full contemplation of disability.

The training will present an outline of the European Semester: what it means, how is it structured and how it affects national policies.

Also, we will explain how we advocate from EDF, and together with our members, towards the inclusion of disability indicators and further recommendations aiming at improving the way national governments tackle disability-related problems.

Last, we will give an overview of the current situation of disability within the European Semester: how has disability being considered in the last packages.

This meeting will provide International sign interpretation and real-time captioning in English.

Speakers:

  • Haydn Hammersley: Senior Social Policy Officer- EDF
  • Álvaro Couceiro: Policy Officer- EDF
