To help tackle the barriers persons with disabilities face when accessing the labour market, the European Commission announced the creation of a Disability Employment Package. Its fully name, to be precise, is the “Disability Employment Package to improve labour market outcomes for persons with disabilities”, a title that promises a great deal. It was announced as one of the flagship initiatives of the EU strategy on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities 2021-2030.
We hear about this package a lot. However, many people still do not know what it really aims to do. The package proposes to tackle poor employment outcomes for persons with disabilities through a series of practical guides, collections of good practices and studies into areas including (among others):
- Employment integration services
- Reasonable accommodation
- Retaining people in employment after acquiring a disability
- Transitioning from sheltered employment to the open labour market
In this online event we will reveal what the package actually aims to do, and how it proposes to achieve its goals. Together we will try to understand how we can best make use of it and discuss what tangible impact it could have on the lives of persons with disabilities in the EU.
We also want to make time to hear your thoughts and ideas. Together, we would like to understand what future action you would like to see from the Commission regarding the employment of persons with disabilities, and hear your proposals for future policy initiatives.
