Goodbye to Gábor Gombos – A world-renowned disability rights activist

It is a great sadness that we learned about the passing of Professor Gábor Gombos, a world-renowned human and disability rights activist and former member of the United Nations Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UN CRPD).

Known for his incredible insight on legal capacity, Gábor Gombos was the embodiment of EDF’s values and motto: nothing about without us. He drew on his own experience to feed his work as a human rights advocate. For over thirty years, he fought for respect, inherent dignity, individual autonomy, and non-discrimination. During his time at the Committee, Gábor contributed to the adoption of the first General Comment concerning the right to legal capacity under Article 12 of the Convention. Professor Gombos was an inspiration to everyone at the European Disability Forum.
