Is the European Union supporting deinstitutionalisation outside its borders? – We’d like to hear from you!

The European Network on Independent Living – ENIL has been commissioned by the European Disability Forum (EDF) to draft a report on deinstitutionalisation and independent living in EU global actions. We are looking at how funding provided by the European Union to other countries supports or hinders progress towards the right to independent living and being included in the community. The report will be published in December 2021.

What information are we looking for?

We are particularly interested in EU funding used to support deinstitutionalisation projects or reforms (for example, the closure or transformation of institutions) and independent living (for example, developing new community-based services, piloting personal assistance, etc.). We would also like to know if any EU funds were used to build or renovate institutions, of any size, for children, adults, or older persons with disabilities.

Who is the survey aimed at?

We would like to hear from:

  • Persons with disabilities and their organisations in countries outside the EU, or working on these countries, who may have been involved in projects funded by the European Union .
  • Individuals and organisations working on deinstitutionalisation, or independent living, with knowledge of projects funded by the EU.

The survey is available in the following languages: English, French, Spanish, Russian, Arabic, Serbian and Croatian/Bosnian. It should not take more than 10 minutes to complete. Thank you for your support.
