We welcome the recognition of the Disability Caucus as an Informal Group of stakeholders by the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). This is an important step towards the creation of a Disability Constituency that can advocate for our rights in Climate Change negotiations.
Disability advocates have been active in advocating for disability-inclusive climate action, including during the UN Climate Change Conferences. The official recognition of the Caucus, with more than 120 organisations worldwide, comes after 9 years of efforts and will, hopefully, lead to easier access to essential discussions.
The Forum continues to call for the establishment of an official disability constituency as the most effective way to ensure persons with disabilities are part of the solutions for climate change.
