Klaus Lachwitz Biography

Background

Klaus Lachwitz, born in 1946, is a human rights lawyer from Germany. For more than 30 years he worked for Bundesvereinigung Lebenshilfe, Berlin, (a DPO representing persons with intellectual disabilities and their families) as head of the legal department and executive director. President of Inclusion International from 2010 to 2018. He published the first legal commentary on the CRPD in German language alongside colleagues in 2014.

He was president of Inclusion International for 8 years (2010 – 2018) and he is Secretary General of the International Disability Alliance (IDA), Geneva and New York City, since 2016 and Member of the Executive Committee of the European Disability Forum (EDF), Brussels, since 2014. Together with some colleagues he has published in 2014 the first legal commentary on the CRPD in German language.
