DARE: Disability Advocacy Research in Europe

The DARE project aims to train the new generation of researchers in the field of disability rights, by embedding them in the top universities in this field, with exposure to key civil society organisations working at the grassroots level to secure the rights of persons with disabilities.  DARE researchers will be trained to identify law and policy challenges in the field and to adapt their research methods towards an innovative application that supports full participation and equality in diverse settings.

EDF will host and support three researchers from September 2019 onwards on the following topics: ‘Combining voices, coalition building and alliances with other social movements’, reproductive rights/gender and disability, and the history of the European Disability movement. EDF will also be involved in the dissemination of the project results, and organise together with the University of Maastricht the project’s final conference in Brussels.

The project starts in January 2019 and will run for three years. The lead partner in this project is the National University of Ireland Galway, and other partners involved are, the University of Leeds, Maastricht University, Swiss Paraplegic Institute, University of Iceland, Institute of Political and Social Sciences, Special Rapporteur on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, International Foundation of Electoral Systems, Pi Consultancy NL LLP, Lumos Foundation.

This project has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under the Marie Skłodowska-Curie grant agreement No 814249.
