Ongoing Empowered by AI
Ensuring persons with disabilities in Europe develop Artificial Intelligence (AI) literacy skills and empower them to use and work on AI safety in their work
“Empowered by AI” is a capacity-building project funded by Google.org. With this project, the European Disability Forum will ensure that persons with disabilities in Europe have the opportunity to develop AI literacy skills and feel empowered to work on and with AI.
Activities
1. Accessibility Audit and adaptation of a new AI course
This activity includes an accessibility audit of the MinnaLearn platform with improved accessibility adaptations, and the creation of an accessible and practical AI course. People with disabilities will gain practical skills and insights into how AI can support their organisations, employment and ethical. Participants with disabilities will be trained as future trainers, empowering them to share their knowledge within their communities.
2. Dissemination of AI course among EDF’s members and the disability movement
The new accessible AI course will be disseminated among EDF’s members and the disability movement in Europe. Participants will complete the train-the-trainer program, earning official certification.
3. Community of practice (CoP)
A Community of Practice will bring together course participants, EDF staff, and disability activists to explore safe AI use, accessibility, and policy impact, producing a toolkit of best practices for EDF members.
4. Capacity building
The subgranting programme of the project will provide funding to EDF member organisations to carry out local and national AI activities, including training, awareness raising, and AI system adoption.
5. Report, measurement and evaluation
Project results will be collected, analysed and shared to promote the wider use of inclusive, accessible AI and increase understanding among educators and policymakers. The report will include guidance documents and case examples from the training activities.
