Completed Inclusion in European’s Union Development Cooperation

Persons with disabilities are at the heart of the 2030 Agenda and the SDGs, where careful consideration has been given to ensure “no one is left behind” with the importance of promoting universal respect of human rights and human dignity, the rule of law, justice, equality and non-discrimination.

The project ‘Inclusion in European Union (EU)’s Development Cooperation’ uses and reinforces EDF’s advocacy platform to influence the EU approach to the SDGs. It builds the capacity of persons with disabilities to advocate to the EU and to their respective national governments and regional organisations for the full implementation and monitoring of disability-inclusive SDGs.

Long-term goal

The project’s long term goal is that the EU and its Member States’ approach to the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development is inclusive of persons with disabilities.

Specific outcomes

In particular, the project aims that:

1. The EU identifies external cooperation as one priority for increased attention within its renewed European Disability Strategy (2017- 2020);
2. The EU’s approach to the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UN CRPD) and external cooperation is monitored through a review of the EU and Member States’ implementation of Article 32 of the CRPD on ‘International Cooperation’;
3. The EU includes specific references on the rights of persons with disabilities in its development policies and programmatic approach and policy dialogues on SDGs implementation includes the voice and participation of persons with disabilities.
