Presentation of webinar on Council Presidencies 20 February 2020

On February 20th, the European Disability Forum (EDF) organised a webinar about the work of the Council of the European Union with a focus on the rotation of the presidencies every six months and how Disabled Persons Organisations (DPOs) can influence the presidency and bring disability issues into the presidency priorities. Moreover, this webinar gave a general overview about the decision-making procedure in the European Union.

This webinar was conducted by Naomi Mabita, EDF Communications Assistant. The webinar was accessible for persons with disabilities providing live captioning and sign language interpretation. It was recorded and it will be available on EDF’s website. This webinar had two speakers, Marie Denninghaus and Gunta Anca.

The first speaker was Marie Denninghaus, EDF Policy Coordinator, who gave an introduction about the decision-making procedures at European level. Then she focused her presentation on the work of Council of the European Union and its rotating presidencies. Gunta Anca, member of the EDF Executive Committee, was the second speaker. She is also the EDF Secretary and Chair of the Latvian umbrella body for disability organisations ‘Sustento’. She spoke about the good practice example of the Latvian presidency in 2015. The format of her talk was different, as it was via questions and answer.
