On May14th, the European Disability Forum (EDF) organised a webinar on the new Erasmus + programme, which is an EU funded programme that provides grants for activities in the fields of education, training, youth and sport. One of the most known activities of this programme is the modality of learning mobility across European Universities.
The webinar was moderated by Loredana Dicsi, EDF Internal Communication and Membership Officer and she was supported by Raquel Riaza, Events and Administration Officer, and Marie Denninghaus, EDF Policy Coordinator. There were 87 registrations. The webinar was conducted in an accessible way for persons with disabilities providing live captioning and sign language interpretation. It was recorded and it will be available on EDF’s website.
Marta Gutierrez Benet, from the European Commission Directorate General for Education and Culture (DG EAC) Unit Erasmus+ Programme coordination and National Agencies management, gave a comprehensive overview of the programme and explained the new aspects of Erasmus+, as well as the opportunities that this will offer.
Dominique Montagnese, inclusive mobility expert from Support Centre Inclusive Higher Education (SIHO), spoke about the barriers faced by students which prevent their participation in the Erasmus+ programme. He also mentioned a recent project SIHO is currently working on called Inclusive Mobility.
Two students with disabilities who experienced the Erasmus programme, Virginia Lozalo and Klaas Coninx, gave their personal testimonials of this mobility programme as a student with a disability.
Kamil Goungor, chair of the EDF Youth Committee, gave the closing remarks of the webinar.
To conclude, a webinar on the European Solidarity Corps was announced for September, although the exact date is still not confirmed.
