Samaneh Shabani's Biography

Samaneh Shabani is a human rights and disability rights’ advocate from Iran. She has a Ph.D in international law, and a master in transitional justice from Geneva Academy of IHLHR. Of her achievements, is the recently published book on domestic violence against women with disabilities and their access to justice. This book is in Persian and, has been a successful attempt to break the academic silence on situation of women with disabilities in Iranian society. In 2021, in her interview with the United Nations Sustainable Development Group , Shabani shares the ideas and research experiences on domestic violence, gender and disability.

Her main areas of work is on the rights of persons with disabilities, particularly the women. Since 2017, she had the chance to work with some solid organizations in national and international level, including Humanity and Inclusion, and the Disability Association of Tavana. In 2022, she was responsible to lead the UNDIS project with the UN Iran. She is currently working as women’s rights officer at EDF.
