The United Nations plays significant role on advancing disability rights worldwide

On World UN Day, and in the current context, we highlight the basic role that the United Nations still plays in ensuring the rights of persons with disabilities, and other marginalised communities, globally.

United Nations officials and civil servants have an essential role in guaranteeing support, including humanitarian aid, to marginalised communities worldwide.

We underline that attacks on civilians and United Nations staff are unacceptable. They should be protected, and States and other actors must ensure every civilian, including staff from international bodies, is protected and safe.

We also highlight the role of UN experts, and UN committees, as impartial observers, responsible for upholding human rights. We call on all actors to respect and follow their recommendations.
