Ukraine Weekly Updates

July 28th, 2022

  • With CBM, we joined SUSTENTO – the Latvian Umbrella Body for Disability Organisation in Riga, Latvia for a three-day visit to discuss our joint work and how to make the humanitarian and reconstruction processes in Ukraine more disability-inclusive. At the conference “With today’s experience for the future of Ukraine“, organised by SUSTENTO with EDF’s support, we also presented our Ukraine programme alongside our national project partners from Hungary, Lithuania, Poland, Romania and Ukraine.
  • During the conference in Riga, participants approved the Riga Declaration for a disability-inclusive Ukraine. The Declaration condemns Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and urges EU institutions, Ukrainian government, the UN and the wider humanitarian community to initiate an inclusive humanitarian and reconstruction action. The 12-point appeal involves: meaningful participation of DPOs, protection and access to evacuation for persons with disabilities, accessibility as a key component of the reconstruction process, and deinstitutionalisation inside and outside of Ukraine.
  • On July 18th, Ukraine has officially become the 36th state to ratify the Council of Europe’s Istanbul Convention Action against violence against women and domestic violence. Read more about the convention on our website.
