Winners of EDF Photo Competition “Shining a light on young persons with disabilities” 

Launched in September 2022, the edition of the EDF Photography Competition “Shining a light on young persons with disabilities” aimed to raise awareness in society through photography, showing how young people with disabilities live their life and are included (or excluded) in society.  

Young people with disabilities are rarely featured in media coverage. They have the same rights to study, travel, work, practise sport, experience culture, etc and yet they have to overcome great difficulties to enjoy a fulfilling life. Through this competition, we have received great photographs that illustrated how young persons with disabilities are living their lives.  

The jury – composed by EDF board members, photographers and members of the staff – judged the entries based on the following criteria: 

  • Quality of the picture 
  • Innovation 
  • Creativity 
  • Relevance to the theme 

EDF would like to congratulate the winners and thank all the participants who have sent us their photographs.

1st place Javier Arcenillas, Spain.

This is Maria, a young enthusiastic dancer with Down syndrome from Madrid, Spain. She dances in a sports centre where Maria – together with her friends – brings out all her creativity.

2nd place Franca De Padova, Italy.

Chiara from Italy loves sports like judo and swimming. She graduated as paralympic judo champion. In this picture Chiara is enjoying an amazing moment for her: the opportunity to swim with dolphins.

3rd place Carolina Chambel, Portugal.

This group of young musicians and artists are part of the Belfast-based NOW GROUP. They show their talent and musical skills to the public with great joy.
