Is your city making efforts to improve accessibility for persons with disabilities? Tell authorities to apply for the Access City Award 2027!
Applications for the Award are now open until 4 September 2026.
The Access City Award recognises cities and urban areas that are trying to make daily life more accessible for persons with disabilities.
The winning city receives a monetary prize of 150.000 euros, while second and third places gain 120.000 euros and 80.000 euros respectively.
This year’s award also includes a special mention for ‘Accessible Community-Based Services’. This award will be given to a city that supports independent living and the transition from institutional care to community-based living.
Who can apply?
- all EU cities of over 50 000 inhabitants;
- urban areas composed of two or more towns with a combined population of over 50.000 inhabitants, if they are in EU countries with fewer than 2 cities with over 50.000 inhabitants.
Timeline
- Receipt of applications until 4 September 2026;
- Announcement of finalists by November 2026;
- Finalist cities should attend the award ceremony on 4 December in Brussels.
