Commission’s services name room after disability advocate Sophie Beaumont

The European Commission’s services for Neighbourhood and Enlargement named their main meeting room in honour of former EDF staff member Sophie Beaumont.

Sophie passed away in 2021. She joined our organisation in 1999. She was our first liaison with the European Parliament’s Disability Intergroup.

She was a tireless disability champion. She advocated for disability inclusion during her tenure at the European Commission. She especially had an impact at the EU Delegation in Skopje and the EU office in Kosovo.

Besides the meeting room, Sophie also had EU-funded housing units for persons with disabilities named after her in North Macedonia.

Read more about her in our 2021 article and the Commission’s press release.
