EDF input to the European Commission’s call for evidence on the 2026 Justice Scoreboard

We welcome the call for evidence on the 2026 EU Justice Scoreboard. The Scoreboard is a key tool for assessing the efficiency, quality, and independence of justice systems and monitoring compliance with the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD), particularly the right to access justice (Article 13).

We stress that access to justice is essential for equal participation in society and the internal market. While the 2022 Scoreboard included indicators on support measures for persons with disabilities, later editions did not maintain this focus. The UN Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities recently issued recommendations calling on the EU to guarantee legal capacity, provide procedural accommodations, strengthen capacity-building, ensure fair trial rights, and include persons with disabilities in the digitalisation of justice.

EDF renews its call for CRPD indicators to be consistently included in all future EU Justice Scoreboards, similar to the mainstreaming of children’s rights indicators.
