We are worried to learn that the political Resolution supporting the WHO European framework for action to achieve the highest attainable standard of health for persons with disabilities 2022–2030 is at risk of not being adopted due to amendments proposed by the EU (PP14 alt). This means the framework would have less political power. We believe that the issues of intersectional forms of discrimination are covered well in the original Resolution. Therefore, we call on the EU to withdraw their amendments. You can read the letter we sent to Commissioner Dalli.
As a reminder, the World Health Organisation’s Regional Committee for Europe is poised to adopt this framework tomorrow – 13 September. The framework’s content was developed in consultation with organisations of persons with disabilities.
The objectives are:
- universal health coverage;
- the promotion of the health and well-being of persons with disabilities;
- the protection of persons with disabilities during public health emergencies;
- the creation of an evidence base on disability and health.
